Refunds
A book and a subscription are refunded by different people. Which one you are asking about decides who you need to reach.

1. If you bought a book
Ask the author you bought it from. Their shop is where the purchase happened, and the confirmation email came from them — replying to it reaches them where they have set a reply address.
This is not us passing you along. When you bought that book, the money went directly to the author: a card payment was charged on their own payment account, and a bitcoin payment settled straight into their wallet. It never passed through Inkwharf, so there is no balance here to refund it from. The author decides, and the author refunds.
If you cannot reach an author at all, contact us and we will try to put you in touch. We cannot make the refund for them.
2. The 14-day right of withdrawal (EU and UK)
Consumers in the EU and the UK normally have 14 days to withdraw from an online purchase. Digital content delivered immediately is treated differently: the right is lost once delivery begins, but only if the buyer expressly agreed to that immediate delivery and acknowledged losing the right at the time of purchase.
Where that acknowledgement was not obtained, the 14-day right applies in the ordinary way and the author should honour it on request.
Nothing on this page removes a right you have by law. Where this policy and a mandatory consumer right disagree, the law wins.
3. Bitcoin purchases
A bitcoin payment cannot be reversed by anyone, including the author and including us. A refund is a new payment back to the buyer, made at the author’s discretion, and the amount returned depends on what the two of you agree — the price in bitcoin at the time of the refund is rarely the price at the time of the sale.
An author who would rather not manage that can sell by card only, or require confirmations before a book is released, both of which are settings in the studio.
4. Files are not returnable, and are not locked
Every book sold here is DRM-free. A refunded buyer keeps a working copy of the file, because there is no mechanism to take it back and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
Some authors watermark their copies, which records that a given file came from a given purchase. That is what makes DRM-free defensible; it does not restrict what a buyer may do with a book they paid for.
5. If you are an author paying us
Plans are billed in advance. You can cancel from the studio at any time, which stops the next renewal and leaves the current period running to its end.
If something we did stopped you selling — an outage, a fault on our side — tell us and we will refund the affected period. We would rather hand back a month than argue about one.
If we end your account without cause, we refund the unused part of anything prepaid.
Cancelling never withholds a book from a reader who paid for it, and never touches money you have already earned. None of it was ever ours to hold.
